The faculty encourages rigorous, creative thinking about the past. By studying History, you can gain invaluable skills, whether your future is in education, law, business, the media, public policy or other careers where the skills and knowledge of history are the best background you can have! A permanent faculty member, the DUS is well suited to guide students through the major and offer advice on careers, graduate study, and professional development particular to the field of history. A four-course minor in history may overlap with two of your general education courses. (Note: students are not required to submit the paperwork this early.) History Minor This minor provides a solid foundation in the study of history, while enhancing a range of skills including critical thinking, historical analysis, persuasive writing, and oral communication. All five upper-division courses must be taken at Berkeley within the Department of History. See the information below. Minors do not appear on diplomas but are noted on students' transcripts. To declare a minor in history, you should first discuss your program of study with a history faculty member.
